NEXT IN CHINESE STYLE – YOUNG DESIGNER CHALLENGE 2023

For the 4^th consecutive year, SPARKLE x VTC’s HK Design Institute organize “Next In Chinese Style – Young Designer Challenge” (NICS) fashion design competition to promote the Intangible Cultural Heritage of cheongsam, and entice young fashion designers to incorporate east-meets-west design and Chinese chic elements into the art of making cheongsams.

To promote Hong Kong’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of the cheongsam, the theme of this year’s “Next In Cheongsam – Young Designer Challenge” fashion design competition” will be “Next In Chinese Style – Denim Casual Wear Travel Series” where we will invite students and graduates of HKDI Department of Fashion and Image Design to fully release their potential and design ultra mod Chinese chic denim casual wear with traditional cheongsam and Tang jacket elements, creating truly East-meets-West futuristic cheongsams and Tang jackets that will rock the fashion world!

| DESIGN REQUIREMENTS |

1. The design must be Denim Casual Wear Travel incorporated with HK’s iconic Red-White-Blue and Chinese Junk Boat elements, and should have a distinctive HK-Story element to it;
2. The design must embody East-meets-West fashion aesthetics;
3. The design must be comprised of more than 50% SPARKLE red-white-blue Chinese Junk Boat cotton fabric and not more than 50% denim (in SPARKLE Chinese Junk Boat pattern or solid color);

1. Participants must attend the final presentation in person
2. Participants are required to present for 5 minutes to introduce their product and design concept;
3. Participants need to prepare an overall styling concept for the model figure, including accessories and shoes for display purposes (not refund)
