FERRY
Ferry boat was the only public transport means between HK island and Kowloon peninsula before the cross-harbour tunnel was built, so it plays a very significant role in the transport history of HK. The first HK ferry set sail on Victoria Harbour in the 1880’s, and the most iconic of them all – the current Star Ferry, first appeared in the 1950s. The swing back chairs with the striking star symbol, the sailor roping the ferry to shore, walking the plank, are all part of fun childhood memories of any generation of HongKongers.
