Lui Shou-kwan made bold choices in composition, using dots, lines and blocks in an abstract manner to reconstruct scenes and break from the age-old forms and conventions in Chinese paintings. His thick strokes and deep hues establish the primary structural elements of the composition, and a vibrant touch of red was added at the centre, breaking from conventional layouts and injecting a fresh, modern interpretation of Chinese ink paintings.
