FRUITFUL HARMONY
Inspired by the lucky windmill (幸運風車) which is on display at the Cantonese Opera Heritage Hall of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and also placed in Che Kung Temple (車公廟) for the public to spin for good luck, pattern designer Ken Fung designed this pattern to pay homage to HK’s roots and humble beginning as a fishing village centuries ago, when villagers decorated their homes and fishing boats with lucky windmills to wish for smooth winds and rain, bringing good harvest, smooth livelihood and prosperity (風調雨順). Spinning the lucky windmill has also become a tradition at the Che Kung Temple during Chinese new year and Che Kung Festival (車公誕) which is on the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Office’s “Social Practices, Rituals and Festive Events” ICH list.
