where we project ourselves onto objects

and achieve complete resonance with them.

Lui Shou-kwan

藝術必須有形，形的開始來自物，

從物引起自我的共鳴，相生相應，

而以物為繪寫之對象。

此即人類繪畫開始於摹仿之理，

進而將自己投入物中，

便達到共鳴共感的最高峰。

呂壽琨

Lui Shou-kwan呂壽琨 (1919-1975), recognized as Hong Kong’s pioneer in the New Ink Movement has had a far-reaching influence on contemporary Chinese ink art. Born in Guangzhou, Lui’s interest in painting was inherited from his father Lui Canming from early on. Lui studied Chinese painting by copying classical works by past masters. Lui graduated from the University of Guangzhou with a degree in Economics in 1946. He moved to Hong Kong in 1948 and began working for the Hong Kong and Yaumatei Ferry Company as an inspector in 1949.

While working on the pier, he was able to observe Hong Kong’s mountains and harbour scenes. These scenes often appear in his semi-abstract landscape works. Afterward, he experimented with Chinese philosophy and abstraction which ultimately lead to the creation of his unique Zen Painting.

This collection of classic cheongsams and kung-fu jackets features SPARKLE COLLECTION original silk patterns depicting details from HKMoA’s priceless ink and color paintings by world-revered Chinese contemporary master artist Lui Shou-kwan.
