Painting (I) (繪畫(一))

Ink and colour on paper
94.5 x 45 cm

In this painting inspired by lotus flowers, Lui Shou-kwan used free splashes of ink and broad, blocky strokes of ink to represent lotus leaves, while the yellow spot at the centre symbolises the purity of lotus flower. The varying textures and density of ink create an interesting contrast with the lightness of the blank space.
